Green city escape: Sacramento

There may not be gold in Sacramento, but there are plenty of riches to be unearthed in this capital city. Long posing in the shadows of its  famous sister cities Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco, Sacramento is quickly becoming the new go-to destination in California.

Moderate temperatures, cultural activities, and plenty of water have helped make it a destination worth visiting. And obviously many agree, since the city recently added a brand new terminal to its airport.

Sacramento offers a more relaxed family-friendly setting with outdoor activities like the Sacramento Zoo, farmers markets, camping and white water rafting.

Walk along the Sacramento Marina or tour Old Sacramento, established in 1849, where you can explore underground, hike in one of the many state parks or ride The Pony Express!

Wine lovers will enjoy touring one of the many award-winning vineyards in the area, some of the oldest in California.
